CHANNEL 10 is set to revitalise its morning line-up as it shunts American Idol out of its prime time slot.
Ten has signed Adam Boland as its new Director of Morning Television.
Boland is the television producer responsible for rival Seven’s successful Sunrise, Weekend Sunrise and The Morning Show.
Last August Ten axed struggling morning show The Circle with Yumi Stynes and Gorgi Coghlan.
Ten's current morning line-up includes US court show Judge Judy and cooking shows Everyday Gourmet, Good Chef and Huey’s Kitchen.
"We are very excited about hiring Adam, who is one of the best television executives in Australia," Network Ten Chief Executive Officer, Hamish McLennan, says.
Meanwhile Ten has been forced to shift American Idol from its 7.30pm time slot after dismal ratings.Idol will go to one night a week - Fridays at 8.30pm - from March 15.
The US talent show, which features Aussie judge Keith Urban as well as Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, crashed to a shocking 270,000 viewers last night.
Idol will be replaced by Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals on Thursdays and The Living Room on Fridays.
The result comes a week after Ten was forced to shunt Glee to its digital channel Eleven after it posted similar lows.
The American Idol figures are a bitter disappointment for Ten which had hoped that Urban’s popularity from The Voice would boost ratings here.
Idol was smashed by Seven’s My Kitchen Rules (1.952 million viewers nationally) as well as Nine’s The Block: All Stars (1.04 million), Hot Property (645,000) and The Mentalist (655,000).
It was also beaten by ABC science series Catalyst (581,000) and relationship series Making Couples Happy (508,000).
"Overseas talent shows passed their use-by date three to five years ago," media analyst Steve Allen says.
Ten program director Beverly McGarvey recently said the network was considering reviving Australian Idol.
Last year Ten struck out with local talent series Young Talent Time, Everybody Dance Now and I Will Survive.
