PAUL Hogan is reportedly planning a return to Australia to celebrate his 40 years in show business.
He is understood to be considering a comedy tour of major capital cities that would mark the anniversary of his breakthrough variety program The Paul Hogan Show, which debuted in 1973.
Venues are being sought while local entertainers have been sounded out by organisers as potential support acts for a mooted tour.
Details have yet to be released and Hogan's US agent did not return calls yesterday.
Based in California with his second wife Linda Kozlowski, the 73-year-old became a comedy legend on Australian TV with his weekly show, which ran from 1973 to 1984.
He recently became embroiled in a lengthy tax fight with Australian authorities, beginning in 2008, when the Australian Crime Commission investigated the star over millions in unpaid taxes.
One part of the case, involving the media, ended up going to the High Court.
Hogan, who always denied any wrongdoing, settled his tax case in May last year but is set to return to court after launching legal action against a former adviser to uncover millions of dollars held in a Swiss bank account.
The actor is reportedly in a tough battle to recover more than $US34 million ($32 million), which consists primarily of his film earnings from the 1980s.
Hogan returned to Sydney for his mother's funeral in 2010, but was banned from leaving the country as part of the tax investigation.
His last film was Charlie & Boots in 2009 alongside Shane Jacobson and Roy Billing.
