IF YOU can't wait for the next season of Offspring, help is at hand - an app.
The app, Offspring: Moving In, sets the scene for a new character joining the show.
The Project Factory's Guy Gadney gave a taste of the production to News Ltd at the Miptv market in Cannes.
The transmedia project for Offspring is in collaboration with partners Intel, Southern Star and Network Ten.
The mobile-based application, Offspring: Moving In, featues exclusive video content, games, diary entries and photos.
The app has been built on The Project Factory's international transmedia platform, Appisodic, that is used by broadcasters, brands and production companies to create interactive entertainment for television series and movies.
Appisodic was used most recently for RTL 4 and Endemol in the Netherlands where it lead to a 45 per cent increase of audience share for a primetime entertainment TV show, GTST, as well as successfully integrating commercial sponsors Samsung and South African Tourism.
For Offspring: Moving In, The Project Factory brought together Intel and Network Ten to form a commercial partnership.
As part of the gaming concept, players can win weekly prizes of an Intel-powered Ultrabook by engaging in the games and unlocking hidden content
Gadney said, "Offspring: Moving In tells the story of a new arrival into the TV show in a new and engaging transmedia way that is attractive to audiences and brand sponsors. "
He said The ubiquity of mobile devices and the rise of social TV could not be ignored. The Project Factory’s experience with UK and European broadcasters suggested that ‘second screen’ engagement would be escalating in the next two years.
"Our experience from working on transmedia projects around the world has shown us that audiences are clamouring for more engagement with the shows they love, and by combining our story-telling creativity with our Appisodic technology platform, we are able to deepen the relationship between shows, brands and the audience", Gadney said.
The tools of the second-screen revolution, devices such as tablets, smartphones and Ultrabooks are tipped to be the driving force behind social TV experiences.
Brands are following audiences as they engage with content across multiple screens, he said
"The power of story-telling across platforms not only personalises the entertainment experience but also allows brands to integrate and engage with audiences for greater resonance.
"The emerging trend of second-screen social TV experiences, which has been embraced globally, is set to drive stronger consumer loyalty and extend the value of brands and content properties in the Australian market."
